Top Tech Skills for the Future of Work


The rate of technological change is accelerating and lots of new technologies and skills are coming. It is almost unpredictable to tell which technical skill will be in demand in future and which will vanish. Some skills are in high demand right now but these were not even existed a decade ago. With the rise of artificial intelligence, machine learning, blockchain and robotics technology is changed a lot. It is a problem for some new learners to decide which skill to learn and which skill have a good future (for at least 5–10 years). I have searched on internet and prepared a article to write most in demand tech skills of future. Following are eight (not limited to 8) skills which are in high demand now and will be in high demand for at least 5–10 years from now.

This article is based on my personal research from my own experience and from online available data. And this is my opinion about the most demanding tech skills of future.

1. Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
AI and Machine Learning are rapidly evolving and have changed the landscape of work. Lots of companies are working on AI/ML and looking for highly skilled software engineers with expertise in AI and ML. Hiring growth of AI/ML practitioners have increased in 2020 and 2021. It is one of the hottest job right now. Machine Learning is one of the most exciting field moving into the future. It is one of the most profitable skill you can learn. From Siri and Alexa to chatbots, from predictive analytics to self-driving cars there are lots of uses of this futuristic skill. Machine Learning is also used in predictions of Covid19 infections in the patients. AI and ML are hottest skills right now and will not be going anywhere in near future. Key skills to learn AI and ML are Python, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and C++.

2. Data Science and Analytics
A lot of data is producing day by day and this huge amount of data is also known as Big Data. Every day millions of terabytes data is produced from social networks and other sites. Handling of this big data and obtaining useful information from this huge amount of data is very beneficial for organizations. The science behind getting useful insights from data is knows as Data Science. Lots of industries are investing large amount of budget in big data to produce useful insights from data. Some of the industries which are heavily contributing are banking, manufacturing, professional services, federal governments and healthcare. LinkedIn and other job portals have shown that it is one of the most demanding skill and its growth is increasing as well. Key skills to master Data Science and Analytics are Python, R, Data Visualizations tools, SQL and AWS.

3. Blockchain
With the rise of Bitcoin, many people have heard about Blockchain technology and it is evolving after Bitcoin and cryptocurrency hype. There are platforms which are dealing with Blockchain services and Ethereum is taking lead in these platforms. More and more companies are looking for developers who understand blockchain, smart contracts and are able to build decentralized applications. Some of the key skills in blockchain development are cryptography computing, database design, programming languages like Java, Python, Javascript, Go and C++.

4. Cloud Computing / DevOps
Cloud computing is in rise because many companies are moving from there classical servers to cloud solutions. According to Forrester Research report, the market of global cloud solutions will grow 35% to $120 Billion in 2021. Many companies are also building their solutions and applications to directly cloud instead of switching later. This show us that Cloud computing and DevOps skills will be in high demand from 2021. Amazon Web Services is one of these cloud solutions featuring content delivery, database storage, networking and more. AWS is backed by Amazon Inc and it is biggest cloud services platform. Other main platforms are Azure by Microsoft and GCP by Google.

5. Digital Marketing
In this age of Internet and social media, online presence of any business is becoming more and more important. Traditional ways are getting old and are not enough effective. In previous two years many businesses are going online and providing their services online. Businesses are always looking for digital marketing professionals to go online and make their online presence. Nowadays digital marketing is more important than billboards advertisements because Facebook and Google control more eyes and these companies are generating more revenue than any other media company. Digital Marketing skills includes Social media marketing, Google Ads, Facebook and Instagram Ads, Affiliate Marketing and many more.

6. Full Stack Development
A website is combination of both frontend and backend development. Frontend is the user interface or the part of website that is visible to website visitors. Frontend is designed and developed by using HTML/CSS and Javascript for web UI and Java, React Native and Nativescript for mobile UI. There are different frameworks for building frontend applications some of most popular frameworks are Angular, React and VueJS. Backend is the part of website that is not visible to visitors and that is responsible to handle logic and interaction with databases. Different programming languages and databases are used for the development of backend APIs. Some of them are Python, C#, NodeJS, PHP, C++, Java and Ruby on Rails.

Full stack developer is someone who can work on frontend as well as on backend. From recent trends and stackoverflow developer survey 2019, there’s a demand for Full stack developers and in future demand of developers who can develop full stack application will be very high.
